Why quinn left sliders

Beverly Hills, and Melrose Place were very popular at the time, and I thought Party of Five would be the younger, sexier show. Bob Weiss, who was the executive producer of Sliders , was the one who really pulled me in. Plus, John Landis was one of the original producers, and getting to meet him was a real thrill for me. I just knew with their involvement, Sliders could be something special. What kind of impact did they have on you? Any time I step foot on any set, I use something that John Rhys-Davies taught me about how to behave and how to prepare for a role.

I mean, I failed Algebra II! I should not be cast as a scientist ever. John just had this gravitas about him that made his turn as a genius totally believable. John and I had a lot of fun off set, too. We were both single, so we went out clubbing on a regular basis. He was an avid aviator, and I used to go flying with him every weekend. John became a close personal friend. Cleavant Derricks was also a lot of fun. Sabrina Lloyd and I lived together for a little bit, but it was truly platonic.

We were roommates for a hot minute because we shot two seasons in Vancouver and then two seasons in Los Angeles. I really miss her, but I stay in touch with her through Instagram [ Laughs ].

What about Kari Wuhrer, who became a series regular in the 3rd season? I see her around LA. When Kari Wuhrer came on the show, it was a tough period for me. John Rhys-Davies and Sabrina Lloyd had moved on, and I felt that they had left the party too early, and I was left behind.

Weiss, and John Landis also departed. While their names were still on the credits, they had nothing to do with the day-to-day operations.

I completely understood where they were coming from. Everyone did carry on, but the show was completely different. We signed on for a thought-provoking, fun take on parallel worlds that explored the effects of slight changes in the way the world works.

The last couple seasons, Silders became more of an action show that focused on our fighting these aliens called the Kromaggs. Do you think the switch from Fox to the Sci-Fi Channel had something to do with the change in focus? I do think that Sci-Fi at that time was looking for darker science fiction fare with an emphasis on heavy special effects makeup.

I can imagine that experience would be distressing for you as a young actor working on his first TV series as an adult.

The people who invited us to the party left the party, and that was disorienting. Some of our cast members felt abandoned. Some pretty great people like Marc Zicree, Richard Compton, and David Peckinpah did come on to the show, but everything had just changed directions. I finally finished the show when I was Although his main interest was physics, Quinn had an encyclopedic knowledge of many things including dinosaurs, Texas history, baseball, and football. Quinn seems to suffer from an inferiority complex that drives his need to succeed.

It could also account for joining the football team in high school despite probably starting off smaller than his teammates and his need to rescue people.

Because of the teasing and bully he endured as a child, Quinn dislikes bully of any kind. This often leads to his jumping in to save people without thinking especially women who quickly take advantage of his good-hearted nature. Professor Arturo dubbed this as "Mr. Mallory's penchant for the quixotic rescue. In late , he became less quirky and more of an action hero.

The death of Professor Arturo saw Quinn change even further, turning him into a hard man who alone shouldered the burden of getting the group home. Sliders Wiki Explore. Wiki Content. They cut the hose, and watch him die, gasping. Shortly, the Sliders land in the forest and all but Maggie Kari Wuhrer start coughing and gasping. She leads them out of the fog, which ends at the forest line. Deep within the fog, the natives, accompanied by Colonel Rickman Neil Dickson , watch their struggle.

Later, when Maggie returns from exploring the fog, Quinn Jerry O'Connell berates her for leaving the group and demands that she stay with the team. They enter a nearby rustic town, inhabited by a simple, unmodern people and they encounter Adra Oona Hart , a blind seer, as she reads tarot cards. When she touches Quinn's face, she gets a vision -- he is a sacrificial victim for the natives -- and warns them to leave town. When they are bumped from their flight back, they luck onto a plane chartered by Kyra Julie St.

As they takeoff, a military Jeep chases them, shooting at the plane. In flight to Los Angeles now called Delgado , Kyra tells them the crates she's transporting contain two poisonous tri-adders, whose venom will be used to cure diseases.

When one of the snakes slips out of its crate and kills the pilot, the plane crashes into the jungle. Against Rembrandt's wishes, Kyra insists they take the other tri-adder, still in its case, as they head for civilization. The Sliders land in a gypsy village, to find several comatose or dead victims. Quinn Jerry O'Connell realizes Rickman is acting desperately, and they follow him to a world they've visited before -- the world Maggie's people arrived in to escape the destruction of their world.

Upon arrival, they encounter huge, plant-eating dinosaurs. Maggie Kari Wuhrer is excited about the dinosaurs, but Rembrandt Cleavant Derricks is more excited that he will once again see Malcolm, the boy whose life he saved. They soon see a wrecked jeep, and then the refugees' empty camp, and a drawing -- by Malcolm -- of a Tyrannosaurus Rex. As a packed crowd waits for the Gothic band Stoker to take the stage, a stagehand introduces a lovely girl, Mina Leslie Monique Soule , to the band. The lead singer, Morgan Ryan Alosio , takes her to the side and buries his fangs in her neck.

Later, out in the crowd gathered for the performance, Wade Sabrina Lloyd watches the band. In the morning, Maggie Kari Wuhrer suggests that they split up to find Rickman Neil Dickson ; Quinn Jerry O'Connell agrees, though he's curious about all the missing girls in this city. They leave Wade, who wants to sleep late.

The Sliders land in the ocean, and swim to the nearby beach, where they realize California has become a chain of islands. They enter the dense undergrowth, feeling that something is watching them. They're right: something chases them. They evade the vaguely-human creature, then it leaps on Quinn Jerry O'Connell. Maggie Kari Wuhrer grabs a rock and knocks it out. Hearing more growls, they rush off. Elsewhere in the jungle, Rickman Neil Dickson sneaks up on a half-human creature and plunges a needle into its neck.

He then injects himself, taking on the hybrid's features. All Rights Reserved. Despite its loyal following, Sliders is in some ways a tale of a great concept receiving spotty execution.

Borrowing more than a little from the premise of Quantum Leap , Sliders sends a group of four very different people on a mostly uncontrolled journey through a wormhole gateway leading to parallel worlds. This essentially enabled each episode to get creative, incorporating a new setting and supporting cast each time out.

At its best, Sliders was a truly great and sometimes thought-provoking bit of sci-fi dramedy, while at its worst, it became an excuse to rip off the popular movies of the times. Most of these issues didn't fall entirely on the creative team, as up and down ratings led FOX executives to constantly make content demands in the hopes of creating another X-Files -sized hit.

Knowing this, it's unsurprising that so many fans wish for a Sliders revival in which the cast and crew were allowed to make the show they truly wanted to make the first time. Thankfully, season 4 was an improvement on the highly erratic third year, which saw beloved character Professor Arturo get suddenly and harshly killed off.
