There is a canopy tower allowing access to the rainforest canopy and nearby is an ox-bow lake and small macaw lick. From a hide located about 20 meters away, you will see dozens of colorful parrots and parakeets as they come to ingest the clay on the river bank, which contains important minerals.
Species you can see here include southern mealy parrots, yellow-headed Amazon parrots, blue-headed parrots and dusky-headed parakeets. The clay lick is most active at dawn, during the late mornings This location has been harvested for decades -- if not centuries — and you can see the remains of a harvesting camp that is used two months a year by Brazil nut gatherers.
Here your local guide will explain the entire harvesting and production process of the rainforest's only sustainably harvested product, from collection through transportation to drying.
