When is the 100 metres final london 2017
Distance — Berlin — London 20m — 2. Are we seeing anything new in the m? Get the body angles right at the start, and strong leg-extensions through the pick-up. Then flow loose and hold shape all the way to the tape with a timed dip.
He performed very impressively. His clockings at 40m onwards were directly comparable with the medallists. Indeed, in his semi-final, he was pulling in the leaders in this section of the race. Start and pick-up. His reaction time is good, but he was weak out of the blocks, and his first m was poor, relative to the medallists.
He appeared to be high on leg-speed, low on horizontal drive in that m phase. The big surprise was that he tightened up in the face and shoulders in the final 10 metres, which is a point where he normally continues to surge away from the field. That may well have cost him the race. Any thoughts on the future of sprint training? To return to the medium start, with drive from both legs. Also a more prudent, selective use of drills and quasi-therapeutic exercises. Yes, certainly at the levels of difference displayed in the race.
I see lots of coaches working on starting, but many use a voice- stimulus. I would always use a clapper board or a shrill whistle, and best of all, a starting-gun. Make it real. The Usain Bolt we saw in London was clearly rusty in all aspects of race fitness, but was always weak in this area. Your thoughts on British sprinting? Very healthy.
CJ Ujah is much better than the athlete we saw in London — he has shown that by his performances in the Diamond League. Prescod is outstanding. AW Follow. What did you think of the National Athletics League this year?
It was the reason I lost. Two years ago, at the world championships in Beijing, Bolt and Gatlin had gone head to head in an epic showdown. With 20m to go the two men were locked together in a desperate tango, stretching and straining for the line. But then Gatlin over-reached, stumbled and, in a flash of 50, camera-phones and a whoosh of cheers, Bolt had him — just. This time Gatlin kept his composure. After 70 metres it looked like Coleman, who made a superb start in lane five, was going to claim his first gold medal.
But with the hot breath of Bolt on his shoulder, he began to tie up, allowing his compatriot in lane eight to pounce. As each of the eight finalists were introduced to the sound of a thumping heartbeat, Bolt had smiled and put his fingers to his lips. Coleman puffed out his cheeks, trying to blow out the tension. Gatlin, meanwhile was stoic and focused in the face of sustained booing. Usain Bolt!
However, to the shock of just about everyone, once again the underdog applied a knockout blow. No wonder the crowd were stunned. Yet throughout there had been the nagging feeling that he was uniquely vulnerable. He had missed three weeks of the season after his close friend Germaine Mason was killed in a road accident. His back had troubled him. His m times were no longer immortal. The door was open for someone to take him.
The question was, could anyone step up? That was answered in the semi-finals as Coleman surged out of his blocks and held his form and his nerve to win in 9.
