How long does a mercedes 300d last

How do you do this girl how do you respond to someone. I can send you a video and pictures if you like. My telephone number is Do you still have it? Email me keathwalker gmail. I disagree with the pain of owning one, a well kept w is only only only a pleasure and with regular simple maintenance this car is indestructible! Pain is my bmw 3GT and Cars as such or the newer generation, too much electronics and build to fail in time unlike the s which were build to last and time has proven this adage right!

Enjoy this pain as you describe it coz no other motoring pain can be as sweet as owing a ! Cheers mate. I also heard it is possible to replace with compatible Benz engines when original parts become impossible to get. However, a relative had a W sedan that with frequent minor issues. Nothing that would leave you stranded, but it made for an annoying ownership experience. His widow much preferred the early Acura Legend she replaced it with.

All cars bought new, needless to say. Please spare me any criticism of a particular car that was abused by previous owners. Keep in mind that this one of the last cars designed by engineers, not marketers. The hood can be raised straight up by your person. The brake pads can be replaced without removing a tire in about 10 minutes.

All of the fuses are in an easily accessible box in the easily-accessible engine compartment: not under the steering wheel or in the passenger footwell which require you unto lie on pavement to replace. I also just acquired a W in the shape of a TD. They are wonderful vehicles and I look forward to getting mine back into top running shape. Check out Mercedessource. Have cd for sale with k mil. If anyone interested. Everett WA. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment.

You really need to know what you are buying. I have a couple of benz diesels, my daily driver is an '82 D with over K miles. They are great cars if they are properly maintained, if you buy one that has been neglected you will spend a lot of cash getting it into good shape.

Have the car checked out by a good benz shop and get an estimate to fix everything that is wrong with it before making an offer. Also, verify that the car has no rust, do not buy a rusty car for any price. Also, the realistic fuel mileage is in the mids, these are not economy cars they weigh about pounds loaded.

However, do not buy one if you are trying to save money. Nonsense, I drive mine about 40K per year with very minor issues. I routinely drive across country miles per day at mph. A year old well maintained engine is at least as reliable as any of the current rolling video games. No, under normal conditions they are very reliable even at that age and miles.

They do take some care, but they were one of the most reliable cars made at that time. All the above advice is good. Glad to have some MB owners relate their experience. A VW van is probably the worst van ever made for sale in the US. It takes a complete masochist to keep owning one. If she is environmentally conscious, this car both pollutes more and uses more fuel than a good compact car of today.

If she wants to minimize operating costs, a 4 year old small car would be your best bet. As other posters pointed out, the fuel mileage is not great and the maintenance upkeep will wipe out whatever other savings you have.

It would seem that the only reason for wanting something this old is to be different. The only people I know who successfully drive these old MBs are very knowledgeable car guys or Germans trying to cope with homesickness. Both are prepared to learn a lot about their vehicles and treat it as a dear pet. The Mercedes will certainly be more reliable than the VW van, but is will be a project car for you to look after. Check out this video and tell me which car you would want to be sitting in the W in the video is a little bigger than a D, but the construction is nearly identical :.

I agree that you can save a lot of money by working on these yourself they are actually pretty easy to work on , but you can preserve one very nicely with a good independent shop. These are a bit of a hobby, but IMHO they are much cooler than anything available today.

Thanks for the reply. If mass and safety were the issue my old Caprice was very safe indeed. I reluctantly parted with it after 19 years of faithful service. If I wanted something cool and different, and had a 3 car garage, it would be a late 80s MB Turbodiesel. Many of the Mercs of that era were used by VIPs and government officials and many are still used by classic class lovers around the world. Out of all the features that the Mercedes-Benz models provided at that time, reliability was one of the most prominent features.

Part of the reason was the less involvement of electronics which bestowed them with bullet-proof reliability. The materials and their quality used in those cars were another factors behind the dependability of the cars and that is what has earned the brand a lifelong reputation as a premium brand which no brand has managed to beat even to this day.

Mercedes-Benz makes some of the powerful engines in the world and their AMG division is dedicated to producing such performance-oriented machines. Apart from performance petrol-powered engines , there are several diesel engines produced by the company.

Unlike the United States, diesel engines are very popular in Europe especially in the eastern part of the continent. This is because they are made to be driven on longer routes and provide excellent fuel economy and torque.

A higher torque output helps them tow a lot more weight than their gasoline-powered counterparts.
